The
15th Century church stands on the site of a smaller one built in the
11th Century (soon after the Norman Conquest) by St. Wulstan, last
of the great Saxon Bishops of Worcester. Wulstan's church replaced
an earlier Saxon church whose first known priest in Claines (or Claynes
as some documents have it) was Behstan, named in a document dated
AD 957. Note the Tree of Jesse mosaic in the choir.
